Mercury Restrictions

Restrictions of Mercury Added Products

A number of US states and foreign countries prohibit the use of mercury in their territories.  These include:

  • Connecticut
  • Illinois
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Washington
  • Wisconsin

Transportation

Mercury is considered a Dangerous Good, and transportation of items with Mercury are governed by the IATA Dangerous Goods standards. Items that contain mercury should always be sealed in a plastic bag before being boxed to contain mercury in case of breakage in transit.  Never ship any broken mercury items that could potentially leak.
