Mercury is considered a Dangerous Good, and transportation of items with Mercury are governed by the IATA Dangerous Goods standards. Items that contain mercury should always be sealed in a plastic bag before being boxed to contain mercury in case of breakage in transit.  Never ship any broken mercury items that could potentially leak.
